Hello! This is BLOC, a barber shop in Yokohama.
I’d like to share why I started BLOC ― it all began with shaving.
I’ve always had sensitive skin and a thick beard, and the hair on my neckline grows in a reverse direction, gathering in the center. Whenever I went to a beauty salon, the neckline looked too sharp and unnatural. The small hairs around my neck and my sideburns were never neatly finished, and I just assumed that was normal.
One day, I got a haircut at a barbershop where one of my juniors worked. He blended my neckline naturally and shaved my neck clean ― I was honestly amazed. That experience made me realize, “This is what I’ve been looking for.”
As a hairstylist, I always wanted to make my male clients look sharper and more confident. But beauty salons can’t offer shaving. So, at 33, while raising small kids, I decided to get a barber’s license.
I worked as a hairstylist in Yokohama during the day, attended barber school at night, and trained at a barber shop on a U.S. military base, where I learned fade cuts from international clients with different hair types. That experience broadened my skills and inspired the vision for BLOC.
BLOC combines the best of both worlds ― the technique of a barber and the creativity of a beauty salon. We offer haircuts, color, perms, and highlights, plus professional shaving for total cleanliness and confidence.
We use PRORASO, a trusted Italian brand that provides a smooth, gentle shave while protecting the skin.
A haircut is ¥7,000, and a cut with shaving is ¥8,000. That small ¥1,000 difference brings a huge boost in how you look and feel.
In the future, I’d like to offer shaving for women as well ― to brighten the skin and help people enjoy self-care in a new way.
At BLOC, I want both men and women to discover a fresher, cleaner version of themselves.
