- Meet the Owner: Koga Tanaka
Hello, I’m Koga Tanaka, owner of LOWONIDA Hair Design in Himeji.
I’m originally from Takatsuki, Osaka, and spent my childhood as a competitive gymnast, eventually entering high school on a sports scholarship.
As my interest in fashion grew, I made the bold decision to leave both the sport and school life behind to pursue hairdressing―a choice I’ve never regretted.
I trained at a salon group with branches across Umeda and Toyonaka, where I focused intensely on technique and took on numerous competitions.
After a few years, I felt a strong pull towards London, wanting to broaden my creative outlook.
Despite having no English and no visa, I took the leap and flew to the UK. With determination―and heavy use of Google Translate―I secured a trainee position at a leading London salon, marking the beginning of my career abroad.
I spent around seven years in London, working on the salon floor , backstage at London and Paris Fashion Weeks, and on various fashion and beauty editorials.
It was an exciting and inspiring period that shaped my approach to hair and creativity.
When I eventually returned to Japan, I started by renting a chair in Kobe, but after the salon closed and a short return trip to London reignited my ambition, I decided it was time to create my own space.
Clients were already travelling from Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Okayama and Hiroshima, so when I found the ideal property in Himeji, I chose it immediately―very much in line with my “act when it feels right” philosophy. Three months later, LOWONIDA Hair Design opened its doors.
I’m committed to continually refining my craft and delivering high-quality, thoughtful styles. I look forward to welcoming you to LOWONIDA.
